I have to admit, I am a huge Twitter advocate when it comes to the purpose of using the client to connect with others but I don't think I would ever go to the point to ridicule people or a professional sports league because they "don't use Twitter enough or at all."  I just got done reading an article by a gal named Gail Sidemann that was focused on how Major League Baseball was "missing an opportunity."  The article was geared around the fact that Gail thought Major League baseball players should tweet more to help build a better fan base and how it could help put people in the seats.  Then she proceeded to to call out the fact that Major League players were not as popular or star studded as other professional sports teams putting basketball and golf at the top of the list.

A few things to consider Gail:

-Major League baseball has a season that consists of 162 games.  They by far have probably one of the most busiest seasons in all professional sports. I doubt tweeting during a double header is a priority on their list.

-I highly doubt Twitter helps sell tickets but maybe you can do an article on that and see how many fans actually go by a ticket because they follow someone on Twitter.

-I don't think Twitter is going to help a Big Leagues players "star-dom".  Players gain respect and fan support because of what they can do on the field, not what they can do on Twitter.

-Have you ever been to a baseball game?  Big League players actually talk to their fans face to face during batting practice when they are signing baseballs.

All in all, I see where Gail is coming from.  Intereacting with fans through Twitter couldn't hurt and I think it brings a sense of "connectedness" for the fans with their favorite players.  However, I don't think that because they don't use Twitter, that Major League baseball is hurting.  Perhaps its the fact that %50 of their players take steroids is a cause to why fan support is lacking.
