unrealistic goals

"Unreasonable and unrealistic goals are easier to achieve"! - Tim Ferriss.

Try that one on for size! I am really enjoying Tim's book and what he has to say! As I pondered the quote above and listened to Tim better explain why he believes the statement is true totally makes sense. When it comes to the topic of goal setting and chasing dreams, nine times out of ten, we set goals that are for the most part safe and will hopefully bring some sort of happiness to our lives. Although that may not be the case for some, the majority would agree. So as a result, the goals that we set are normally mediocre. Tim drops a statistic that 99% of Americans believe that they are NOT capable of achieving great things! Wow, what a staggering statistic. This is why most goals diverge from unrealistic which leads to excitement and settle for attainable, mediocre goals.

So TIm challenges one to set unrealistic, unreasonable goals to get the blood flowing! Just for a second, try on the thought that we create goals to add happiness to our life. What if happiness was equal to boredom? How would that change things? What if happiness was just the status quo that got us through our day? More than likely we would become stuck, if we already aren't, with where we are at. Why is that? Probably because we are lacking excitement. So what if we started to set unrealistic goals that created excitement and energy to our lives? How would that change things? What if chasing our passions and dreams equalled excitement?

One of Tim's challenges to a class at Princeton was to contact one of these three people and to get them to answer any question of their choice. He said, Whoever can do this, I will provide a round trip ticket around the world! The three people were, J-Lo, Bill Clinton and J.D. Salinger. Out of the 20 people that took the challenge, none of them achieved it due to different excuses. Which I think we can all relate to. The follow year threw out the same challenge. 7 people completed the task by contacting people like, George Bush, CEO of Disney, Comcast, Google and HP. And what's crazy is that they all completed the task in 48 hours! Pretty neat in my opinion!

So what if we took risks like that in our daily life, what would come from it? What if you could ask any person in the world a question of any choice that you think would add value to your life, what would ask them? What if passion equalled excitement? What ideas come to mind for you personally that brings excitement to your life and makes you get butterflies in your stomach? Are you going to let the excuses stand in your way? Are you going to be like the other 99% of the people in the world that don't believe that they can achieve great things? Or are you going to stop believing the lies that everyone is better than you and take a chance? Even if worst case scenario comes true, at least you are failing big! The first step to living an uncommon life is making uncommon decisions (in an appropriate ethical manner of course). So lets live uncommon lives!

Flash Forward To Another Journey

ff
I'm a little more than a month into the new school and finding free time in my job has been tough at times. One thing though that I have been able to explore has been podcasting. A few of my good friends have decided to try out our own podcast and so far it has been an exciting journey. Our main motivation with the podcast program was going to be geared towards our obsession with the TV show Lost. We plan on exploring different theories along with personal thoughts on the final season as it nears its end. In our journey to Lost we have first embarked on a new tv show called Flash Forward! ABC's new Flash Forward has definitely allowed us to get our feet wet as we enter into the huge lake of podcasting. So far we have been a big advocate of USTREAM which allows us to broadcast live along with record our show while at the same time recording our podcast with Garageband. So far we seem to only talking to the open air but all in all it has been fun. So when you get a chance, check out our website here and let me know what you think!

Where Do You Participate In Community

As of lately I have been talking a lot of about getting "connected" with others through Twitter and other avenues of networking. Now I want to hear from you about what communities that you are actively engaging in when it comes to connecting. I know for many of us, we are apart of many different multiple websites and what not, but what places to engage in conversation the most. Here are a few places that I participate in conversation:

Twitter- this is probably one of my main, on-line communities that I participate in. I am slowly beginning to branch out and connect with new people through this social-networking tool more and more on a daily basis.

Facebook- through this site is where I maintain more "intimate" relationships that I have with close friends and family. I do my best to stay in touch with dear friends that live all over the U.S. and be a source of encouragement and friendship to them.

Bloggeries- this is a site that is new to me and is basically a place where fellow bloggers come to bounce ideas off each other and help out in technological ways when it comes to learning how to be more efficient in the blog world.

Open Door Fellowship- this is a place that is not on-line. This is where my wife and I go to learn more about who we are in Him and to grow in community with fellow, like minded people.

Mosaic- this is a place where I stay connected with fellow family in friends while out in California. Mosaic is a community of faith, hope, and love. If you live in Cali I strongly suggest you check it out!

So once again I encourage people to stay connected through different social media techniques, be don't neglect to connect with the people that are around you in your daily life! Twitter will never be able to provide the type of gratification and fulfillment that you will find in a healthy community of people. For those of you though that are afraid to get out of your comfort zone and connect with others, at least try to attempt to dialogue with people through facebook and twitter. Stop "quoting" the conversation and start participating! Hopefully when its all said and done, you will be a better person for it!

Now there are thousands of different communities around the world that people are apart of. Let us know which ones you are apart and why. Tell us the sites or places and let us know your names within those sites.

When technology trends meets health

It seems that eating healthy is new thing to do these days but in our fast paced lives we live, it is hard to look back at the day and remember all the food we consumed.  There are multiple different ways to solve this problem but lets keep it realistic.  When people go eat to eat or make a quick stop on the way home, not everyone has their "food diary" handy.  One thing people now days always have on them though is their cell phone.  And if you are like one of the millions around the world who are on Twitter, this might be just for you.  I found an app called Tweet What You Eat that seems to be pretty legit. Picture 4 This app allows you to tweet in your daily food content along with adding the calories to each item and it will keep a food diary for you on the web!  Pretty simple.  Then when you get home at night you can click on your food diary and see what you consumed throughout the day.  For some like me, you probably won't like what you see.  For others though who are attempting to live a healthier lifestyle, this app could be useful in figuring out some foods or snacks that you might want to cut out of your diet.  So check it out and let me know what you think and good luck!  Below is a quick youtube video to help get you started! Also, for other tips on how to eat healthy, check out this site.

Wordpress for Blackberry

wordpress-logo
For those of you who are extremely serious about blogging and own a blackberry, you are in luck!  Today while I was reading on Crackberry.com, they posted a new blog on the fresh new Wordpress app that was just released!  Being a blogger myself I decided to download the app.  So far so good.  I have yet to actually post a blog from my phone, but I will try it out sometime soon!  For people that already own an iPhone, this app has been out for a while.

I think the new Wordpress app for Blackberry will pay off at those times when you have some free time to kill and you are tired of playing Brickbreaker on your phone!  For all the crackberry users out there you know what I am talking about.  So for those who have already downloaded the app and put it to good use, let me me know what you think of it.  And for those of you who would like a little bit more detail about Blackberry's new Wordpress app, check out this link.

Michael Jackson: 8/29/58-6/25/09

mj

Here is a little bit of background on the King of Rock, Michael Jackson taken from Wikipedia:

Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American recording artist, entertainer, businessman and humanitarian, whose unique contributions to popular music and dance, along with his highly publicized personal life, made him a central part of popular culture for four decades. One of the few artists to have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice, his achievements included multiple Guinness World Records—including the "Most Successful Entertainer of All Time"—13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles in his solo career, and the sale of over 750 million records worldwide.

The seventh child of the Jackson family, he made his debut in 1968 as a member of The Jackson 5, beginning a solo career in 1971 while still a member of the group, a career that saw him dubbed the "King of Pop." His 1982 album Thriller remains the best-selling albumof all time, with four of his other solo albums among the best-selling: Off the Wall (1979), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991), and HIStory(1995).

In the early 1980s, he became a dominant figure in American popular culture. He was the first African American entertainer to amass a strong crossover following on MTV, with videos such as "Beat It," "Billie Jean," and Thriller—widely credited with transforming the music video from a promotional tool into an art form—bringing fame to the relatively new channel. Videos such as "Black or White" and "Scream" made him an enduring staple on MTV well into the 1990s. Beyond his success on television, he popularized a number of physically complicated dance techniques, such as the robot and the moonwalk, with his elaborate stage performances. His distinctive musical sound and vocal style influenced many hip hoppop, and contemporary R&B artists across several generations. Jackson also supported 39 charities: he donated and raised millions of dollars through his Heal the World Foundation, as well as by performing charitysingles.

Aspects of his personal life, including his changing appearance and behavior, generated significant controversy. He had experienced health concerns since the early 1990s, along with conflicting reports regarding the state of his finances. Accused of child sexual abuse in 1993, his health and reputation were badly affected by the controversy, though no charges were brought because of a lack of evidence. He married twice and fathered three children, one of them using a surrogate mother, actions that triggered further speculation about his life. In 2005, he was tried and acquitted in connection with different child molestation allegations. He died on June 25, 2009, aged 50, after suffering cardiac arrest.

His life story was a rough one and there was a lot of  baggage that came along with the fame.  Now that he is dead everyone is remembering the good times in the life of MJ.  It is not everyday you see a funeral take place at the Staples Center in L.A.  Always remember that our life will always impact somebody, either negatively or positively.  Make sure that you don't live your life just for yourself but to help better those around you!
